NFL Challenge: Penultimatum

Here we sit with one week left in the Science Blog NFL Challenge and suddenly things look interesting. Much like her beloved Vikings, DGT was stumbled in the last few weeks, looking vulnerable at the wrong time of the season. Could it be that she is feeling the strain of the long season? Hard to say. But what is not hard to say is that having built a lead that looked unsurmountable a couple of weeks ago, DGT has tumbled within striking distance.

One week remains and DGT is clinging to a 1 point lead, with Nat smelling blood. Somehow I've managed to stop the bleeding and put together a solid three week stretch to pull into third place, 4 points off the lead. As your week 16 winner, all I can say is that I have my eye on the prize and not the minor victories. Trailing two point behind me is a logjam of Chall, Alyssa, PiT and last week's winner (sorry for the delayed gratification), Candid Engineer. Odyssey and Genomic Repairman are three points behind the traffic and 6 points behind them is Tom trying to drive with the "check engine" light on.

Will there be a massive upset next week or will DGT find her mojo and bury us all? Could she be toying with us just keep it interesting? The thrilling conclusion* next week....

*And the final end to these posts for those of you who have no idea what I keep going on about.

  1. See, my strategy of measured mediocrity is paying off. I haven't won a week yet, but here I am, nipping at DGT's heels.

Now, not only does she have the sinking Viking ship to worry about, she's got one big Stiff Arm coming her way!

  2. Leaving seven games unpicked this week certainly didn't help me. I'm lucky I got 5 points. After my third win this season I certainly nose-dived. Sheesh. I suck.

  3. I think the top folks should rest their starters in week 17 to make things interesting.

  4. I totally bailed when the dissertation got heavy around here, but I am pleased to note that despite my absence I'M NOT LAST!!

  5. Anon, resting starters just gives some undeserving crappy team like the Jets a free pass. And just think what it would do to our wildcard system!

Wait, we don't have a wildcard or playoffs in the NFL pool... crap.

This week should be interesting trying to divine what teams are going to try and which aren't. Vegas must be tearing its hair out with the lines. Last week there were THREE lines of 14 points. That never happens and two covered with Tampa winning outright. These last two weeks are dangerous times and should make the picks interesting in the final week.

  6. WOHO! I'm not last anymore :D

joke aside... I guess it might be very hard for me to get my hands on the first place (since I am 5 points behind) but maybe third??! ^^ If nothing else, I would think that DGT makes her tribute to her team, which the last three weeks have played SO bad (and I can say this since they are "my" team too...). It's going to be interesting Monday.

So, are we doing a quick poll for the play offs then? Like, who wins the Superbowl, or "which two teams meet and who will be the winner?". Maybe I should post that question on my blog? (more betting for the people!)

  7. Quite the log jam at 118 points right now. This week should be really interesting though.

I vote that we should do some sort of pool for the playoffs. I'm surprised there isn't one on the fantasy network we're on!
