30 min healthy meal

This is something my wife and I like to whip up for a quick Sunday meal that feeds us and the Wee One for a few days. As long as you have a few meats on hand, it comes together quickly and since everything is already cured, it only needs to cook for about half an hour. Take ham sausage, ham slices, smoked pork sausage and wrap them in a roasted pork belly. Surround that with ground sausage shaped into a pig, wrap it in bacon and roast for 30 minutes at 400F. Garnished with chili ears and tail. Kids love it and you can leave it on the counter for a few days and pick at it when you want to.

  2. I saw the Porkgasm on This Is Why You're Fat and thought it ruled. I would be lying if I didn't admit there were a few things I've seen there that I contemplated trying to cook myself...

  3. How can you NOT want to cook something called the Porkgasm?

  4. A friend of mine once ordered a hexadecastacker from Buger King. The caisher responded "Sorry, I can't do that for you" and my friend pointed to the "Have it your way" sign. Sure enough he paid ~20$ for a 16-pattie burger with 36 slices of bacon.... (and ate it all himself)

  5. haha, I think I know someone who would like this :)

It screams "hang over food" and my guess is that if you pick good sausages it is not bad for you at all. really, good meat is good meat.

  6. Eugenie - The thought of that made me push lunch back another half hour in the hopes that I can forget the hexadecastacker in time to be hungry again.

AA - Come on! It has a cute tail and ears!

Chall - even "good" sausage has enough fat in it to make Richard Simmons cry.

  9. That actually looks quite a lot like the Festplatter we ordered in a German restaurant on Saturday.

  10. 16 patties? Child's play. Try 100 In-n-Out patties.

  12. Cath - Meat platter at a German restaurant = food coma

Anon - That's cheating if you bring 8 people to play. It's a great way to kick a bad habit though. I'm not sure I could look at a burger for a decade after that.

PiT - Hey, it might help you put that weight back on! I would cook it for more than 30 minutes though, I'm not sure that would be enough time to warm the pork belly, let alone the sausage.

  13. You know, with the strips of bacon (picture on the left), that thing looks kind of like an armadillo!

I know this is a joke and all, but I gotta say those pictures are almost enough to make me turn vegetarian....

  15. PLS> but some fat is good fat.... right? ;)
Not to mention soul food and all that.

I don't think "good sausage" is bad for you. However, it is all about amounts here. Maybe not sausage every day but once or twice a month isn't that bad. And this might work you know, once every two years or so :D

(who am I kidding, if anyone knew my old favourite is the [swedish] "falukorv", me calling it sausage would go crazy. It's mainly flour.... kids' food. Absolutely lovely :) )

  16. Me going against fat in a person's diet is like the pope preaching polydeism, but I think you're right that limiting your overall sausage intake is probably in anyone's best interest. I think the "porkgasm" is best left on a decadal cycle... unless you have a bottle of Anon's bacon lube by your bedside, in which case all bets are off.

  17. I did find something at think geek though - the bacon squeeze... (se my blogpost since SGG put another crazy bacon link in there)

I don't even begin to know what's out there ;)
